Human Rights Defenders Discussed 11 Priority Steps to Defend Human Rights in Large-Scale War Conditions

On April 4, 2024, the Coalition of NGOs dealing with defending the rights of the affected due to the aggression against Ukraine, discussed in camera 11 Priority Steps for 2024 to defend the human rights in the large-scale war conditions.

The event participants disputed, together with representatives of the international organizations, embassies, and charity foundations, on the Coalition vision of the State actions needed, challenges faced by human rights defenders in interacting with the authorities and promoting integrated necessary steps to defend the war victims.

Representatives of the NGO Coalition declared a consolidated position regarding the priority steps of the State for 2024, in the conditions of large-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. According to human rights defenders, implementing the recommendation, Ukraine will be able to create conditions for bringing war criminals to criminal responsibility, improve the protection of victims of hostilities, in particular internally displaced persons (IDPs), reduce the level of tension in society regarding prosecution for crimes committed during the temporary occupation, increase the level of transparency in the decision-making process regarding personal criminal responsibility for war crimes, etc.

Ms. Olha Skrypnyk, the Crimean Human Rights Group Chairperson, stressed out actions required to defend civilian hostages.
