Chairman of ‘Judge’ Panel in Crimea Withdrew at Session on ‘Refat Chubarov’s Case’

The “Supreme Court” of Crimea began to consider on merits a criminal case against Mr. Refat Chubarov, the Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

Refat Chubarov is charged under RF CC Article 212-1 “Organization of riots” and two episodes of Art. 280.1 “Inciting for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation in public.”

On the official website of the “Supreme Court” of Crimea, the names of legal suit participants are not available.

The public was not allowed into the courthouse due to the new coronovirus infection pandemic.

Chairman of the panel of “judges” Sergei Pogrebniak recused himself due to his involvement into the court of second instance in the case of Mr.Chiygoz and determination of the jurisdiction for the remaining defendants in the case of “February 26”. The panel of “judges” was dissolved.

Russian lawyer Nikolai Polozov did not manage to enter the suit as a defender of Refat Chubarov.

The date of the next session was not reported in the “court”.
