Journalist and Public Figure Serhiy Tsyhipa Convoyed from Occupied Crimea to Russia

Serhiy Tsyhipa, a journalist and a public figure from Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Region, was convoyed from Simferopol to Russia on April 8. This was reported to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine by Mrs. Olena Tsyhipa, his spouse.

The place where Serhiy has been transported is now unknown. According to the political prisoner’s spouse, neither she not the defence lawyer were aware about the transportation date.

Serhiy Tsyhipa is a civic activist from the city of Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Region, head of Kakhovka Bridgehead NGO, citizen journalist. On March 12, 2022, he was driving to Tavriysk, to deliver medicines to his mother-in-law, when the communication with him was lost.

Only in October 2022 it became known that Serhiy was kept in the Pre-Trial Detention Center no 1 of Simferopol.

In early December he was known to have been moved to a new Pre-Trial Detention Center of Simferopol.

In December 2022 Serhiy was known to be charged with espionage (RF CC Article 276; 10 to 20-years’ sentence).

On October 6, 2023, so called “Supreme Court of Crimea” sentenced Serhiy Tsyhipa to 13 years in the maximum security regime penal colony on the charge of “espionage” under RF CC Article 276.
