Arrest of ATO Veteran Association Chairman from Kherson Land Extended Again

A detention period of Mr. Oleksandr Zarivnyy, Head of Kherson District State Administration Department for Humanitarian Policy, and Chairman of ATO Veteran Association CA, abducted from Kherson Land, was extended.

The CHRG reports that on August 21, 2023, “Kievskiy District Court” of Simferopol rejected a defence request to commit a pre-trial restriction and extended the arrest of Mr. Zarivnyy for three months, until November 28, 2023.

Previously the CHRG reported, that Mr. Zarivnyy was abducted on March 17, 2022. On that day the Russians broke into the family’s house in Oleshky, held his wife and daughter at gunpoint, and then took him somewhere in handcuffs. For about 4 weeks Oleksandr was held in the Kherson Temporary Detention Unit controlled by the Russian military. Then he was moved to Simferopol. There he has been held in the Pre-Trial Detention Center no 2 of Simferopol, charged with espionage (RF CC Article 276, 10 – 20 year’s sentence).

In winter of 2023, Mr. Zarivnyy was subject to forensic psychiatric examination in the mental hospital. And then his detention period was extended till May 2023.

On May 22, 2023, the detention period was extended again for three months, till August 28, 2023.
