8 New Criminal Cases for Evading the Conscription to RF Army Started in Crimea for Month

In February the Crimean Human Rights Group documented 8 new criminal cases of Crimean residents for evading the military service in the Russian Federation Armed Forces.

These are: 6 cases in the ‘Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol’, and one case in ‘Sovetsky District Court’, and ‘Feodosiya Town Court’ each. The sentenced were passed on three of them at the ‘Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol’.

These are: on February 11 and 18 the judgements were passed by judge Andrey Grachev, and on February 12 – judge Anatoliy Vasilenko. Totally, by the end of February 2020 the CHRG had documented 91 criminal cases for evading the RF Army military service, that were sent to the Crimean ‘courts’ for considering, with verdicts delivered for 85 of them and 6 being still under consideration .

We would recall that conscription of the residents of the occupied territories to the army of occupying power as well as a continuous propaganda of the RF Armed Forces service on the territory of Crimea violate Article 51 of Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Fourth Geneva Convention).

The CHRG is addressing the Crimean residents with a request to email the information verifying the military draft in Crimea (draft notices, photo and video files) to [email protected].
