The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine shall work further, – the human rights defender claims

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine shall work further  as the violations by russia need to be systematically recorded and investigated. This is the statement of Iryna BARAN EL GHALI, the international advocacy manager of the Crimean Human Rights Group, at the event of the 58th UN Human Rights Council “11 Years of Systemic Human Rights Violations in Temporarily Occupied Crimea: What Can International Mechanisms Do?”

The human rights defender emphasizes the importance of further work of the Commission.

“The Commission is the key instrument of the international pressure as it has been collecting the evidences of the war crimes for consideration by the International Criminal Court, recording the scope of the tortures  and political persecutions which confirm the systemic nature of the crimes by russia. It helps either to monitor the change of tactics of russia in different regions of occupation and protects the victims and their families guaranteeing the international attention to every particular case.  Russia has been trying to suspend the work of the Commission which is a proof of efficiency of the Commission and importance for further justice.   It is necessary for the international organizations and NGOs to further monitor and to record  the tortures and other crimes as to civilians detained in the temporarily occupied territories and RF”, – Iryna BARAN EL GHALI claims.

Besides, the human rights defenders of “ZMINA. Information centre for Human Rights”, “Crimea SOS”, ‘The Centre of civil education “Almenda”,  “Regional centre for human rights” drew attention to the crimes daily committed by the state aggressor in Crimea: suppression of the civil society; eradication of the Ukrainian identity; persecution for dissenting opinions; forcible disappearances; illegal apprehensions, tortures; spurious charges of “extremism”  and “terrorism”; political indoctrination and militarization of youth; deportation of Ukrainian children to russia.
