The Parliament of Ukraine has adopted a resolution on releasing journalists illegally captured and detained and returning them to Ukraine, that includes Vladyslav Yesypenko and citizen journalist Iryna Danylovych. This was posted by MP Yevheniya Kravchuk on her Facebook page.
“Among today’s major decisions of the Parliament of Ukraine is Resolution on releasing journalists captured and illegally detained and returning them to Ukraine, that I am the co-author! 293 votes FOR”, she wrote.
In the document, the Ukrainian party calls on international partners to increase political and diplomatic pressure on Russia to return captured and illegally detained journalists, including citizen ones. According to international law, they are civilians who should enjoy protection if they have not committed acts incompatible with their status as civilians.
Ms. Kravchuk is going to raise the problem at the committee hearings of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), including also holding subject specific events in Ukraine together wit the CE Office.
“We know 26 verified cases of illegal incarceration of Ukrainian media people. Among them Vladyslav Yesypenko, Dmytro Khyliuk, Iryna Danylovych, Maksym Butkevych. We are counting on a proper reaction of the partners to return them as soon as possible”, she noted.
