The occupation ‘Kievsky District Court’ of Simferopol convicted Mr.Ayder Umerov, a citizen of Ukraine, for allegedly serving in the ‘Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion’.
As reported by the FSB, Ayder Umerov is sentenced to 6 years in custody to be served in the maximum security regime penal colony.
‘The court has proved that in 2016 the defendant voluntarily joined the Ukrainian illegal armed formation. Ayder Umerov served in the armed guards of the battalion, and also dealt with the issues of logistics and food security» the statement says.
It is also reported that Mr.Umerov was detained by ‘border guards of the Russian FSB department for Republic of Crimea’ in April. He was charged with RF CC Article 208-2 (“Service in an armed formation not provided for by federal law as well as service on the territory of a foreign power in an armed formation not provided for by the legislation of that power, for purposes contrary to the interests of Russia”).
To remind:
- On October 25, Mr.Rustem Gugurik, a Crimean Tatar, a resident of Novooleksiyivka, was sentenced to 8.5 years in custody for allegedly serving in the ‘Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion’.
- On October 17 Mr.Artur Memetshayev, a 33-year-old Crimean Tatar, to 6.5 years in custody for allegedly serving in the ‘Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion’.
- On September 21, Ruslan Abdurakhmanov, citizen of Ukraine aged 31, was sentenced to 5 years in the maximum security regime penal colony for the alleged service in the “Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan”. The FSB reported that Mr.Abdurakhmanov had been allegedly detained when he attempted to cross the border.
- On August 19 ‘Belogorsk District Court’ of Crimea sentenced Rustem Osmanov to 6 years in custody for allegedly serving in the ‘Noman Chelebidzhikhan Battalion’.
As reported by the CHRG, the official reason for persecuting the accused in Crimea under RF CC Article 208-2 (Service in the illegal military formation which activity objectives contradict the interests of the Russian Federation) is that they failed to come voluntarily to the RF law enforcement bodies and declare their service in the ‘Crimean Tatar Noman Chelebidzhikhan Volunteer Battalion”. The evidence of the battalion actions against the RF interests declared by the investigation is the information of mass media that the purpose of the battalion establishment was to de-occupy Crimea.
