Occupiers Extended Arrest of Crimean Tatars Detained After 5 February’s Searches in Crimea

The occupation “Kievskiy District Court” of Simferopol extended the arrest of the “Hizb-ut-Tahrir” case defendants: Emir Kurtnezirov, Abibulla Smetliaiev, Rustem Mustafaiyev, Mirzali Tazhibaiev, and Bakhtiiar Ablaiev. They will be held in pretrial detention center until July 4, 2025, the Crimean Solidarity reports.

As noted, three of those arrested were unable to attend the hearing because they are undergoing forensic psychiatric examination – they were not brought from the hospital, lawyer Edem Semedliaiev said.

“Referring to the law that allows not bringing defendants to court, they were deprived of the opportunity to participate in the proceedings and express their views,” Semedlyiaiev said.

The lawyer objected to the extension of the arrest, arguing that the investigation had no real grounds for such a restriction. However, the ‘court’ did not take the lawyers’ arguments into account.

On the morning of February 5, it became known that the occupiers in Crimea had detained five Crimean Tatars. At around 4:00 a.m., FSB officers raided the homes of Abibulla Smetliaiev, Rustem Mustafaiyev, Mirzali Tazhibaiev, and Bakhtiiar Ablaiev in the Dzhankoi and Kirovskiy districts of Crimea.

After the searches, the Crimeans were taken to the FSB headquarters in Simferopol for investigation.
