In Crimea, Law Enforcers Detain a Family That Moved from Lviv Before the Occupation on Charges of ‘Treason’ – Chubarov

In Yevpatoria, Russian law enforcement officers detained members of a family that had moved from Lviv before the occupation of Crimea after searches on the night of 22 March: Tetyana Maliar, her brother Valentyn, son Anatoliy Rossikhin and daughter Olga Begei. All of them are accused of ‘high treason’ and are being held in the Simferopol Detention Centre No. 2.

This was reported by the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov on Facebook.

‘On the night of 21-22 March, searches were conducted at four addresses in Kezlev / Yevpatoria and Tetyana Maliar, born in 1968, Valentyn Maliar (Tetyana Maliar’s brother), born in 1974, Anatolii Rossikhin (Tetyana Maliar’s son), born in 1986, and Olga Begei (Tetyana Maliar’s daughter), born in 1992, were detained in their homes. It is known that detainee Olga Begei has a daughter, Alisa, aged 11, and a son, Ruslan, aged 7, at home,’ Chubarov wrote.

He said that the whereabouts of the detainees were hidden from their relatives for more than a week, until it became known that they were in the Simferopol Detention Centre No. 2.

‘It is a well-known trick of the Russian occupiers, when in the first days of illegal detention, citizens are subjected to torture and psychological pressure to obtain the testimony needed by the occupiers,’ the Mejlis Chairman noted.

According to his information, all illegally detained citizens have been charged by the Russian occupiers with actions falling under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, ‘high treason’.

‘Acquaintances and friends of Tetyana Maliar and her detained relatives do not rule out that the reason for their persecution may be that they are natives of Lviv, who moved to Crimea for permanent residence before the occupation of the peninsula,’ Chubarov added.
