Detention for Songs and Posts: How People Are Persecuted for Pro-Ukrainian Position in Crimea

The CHRG keeps on documenting criminal and administrative cases against Crimeans initiated due to posts of Aleksandr Talipov, a pro-Russian “blogger”, the founder and coordinator of the Internet community called “Crimean SMERSH”. Members of the community persecute those who do not support the Russian government and the war against Ukraine, publish personal data of such people, incite hatred to them, call for persecuting them, and make reports to the RF FSB and MIA.

For instance, on October 22, 2024, Talipov’s Channel published the information that Aliye Dzhafarova, a resident of village of Chernovo, Pervomaysk District, Crimea, born in 1978, was detained because allegedly in the summer she “had denied the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation” in the shop. The Crimean was forced to make a regret expressing video.

In addition, Talipov informed that the E Centre men had detained Alime Kerimova who was listening a song “Good Evening, We Are From Ukraine” on her social network page. The Crimean was also forced to express regret.

In addition, the “blogger” informed that Tetiana Kasay from Kerch was also detained by the Extremism Counteracting Center men for posts on the social networks where she accused Russia of aggression and was said “to discredit the army”.

According to Talipov, the report was drawn up regarding the woman, and files were sent to the court.

Human rights activists point out that the activities of this “blogger” outstep the usual dissemination of hateful messages, because, in addition to inciting enmity on social networks, he also publicly acknowledges his collaboration with the FSB of Crimea. According to analysts of the Crimean Human Rights Group, Talipov’s activities can be considered as direct complicity in the persecution of residents of the occupied territories for their public pro-Ukrainian position.

As reported, since the beginning of the Crimea occupation, the Russian Federation has been consistently persecuting the peninsula residents for their active pro-Ukrainian position. After the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainians who express their disagreement with the occupation regularly become victims of enforced disappearances, illegal deprivation of liberty, inhumane treatment and other human rights violations not only in Crimea, but also in the newly occupied territories.
