The occupation power is blocking about three dozen websites, including international ones, that may provide residents of the peninsula with real information about the spread of COVID-19.
According to Ms. Olha Skrypnyk, the head of the Crimean Human Rights Group, this is done to promote their own propaganda as well as to intimidate people who were going to go to the territory controlled by Ukraine.
“The policy related to the information isolation refers to the fact that Russia is constantly trying to deprive Crimeans of access to information sites. At least 25-30 sites are constantly blocked on the territory of Crimea. Among them are popular media, the website of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the website of Jehovah’s Witnesses and even the website of the Ministry of Ukraine for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories”, Ms.Skrypnyk said.
More information on the violation of human rights in Crimea can be found in the analytical report ‘Situation with Human Rights in Crimea for Seven Years of Occupation’.
As the CHRG reported, facts of deaths of medical staff due to COVID-19 are concealed in Crimea, and the statistics of morbidity and mortality is deliberately underestimated. In 2020, the statistics on the coronavirus infection morbidity was at least four times underestimated in Crimea.
