2025 should be the year of joining all efforts of the expert and the cultural diplomacy, in particular, in order to fight against the Russian misinformation and to draw attention of the world community to the topic of the occupied territories. That is the urge by Olha SKRYPNYK, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Human Rights Group, pronounced at the panel discussion“Crimea: how not to lose the world’s attention”, within the framework of the forum “11 years of war. Starting point: Crimea”.
Olha SKRYPNYK informs on media monitoring by the Crimean Human Rights Group “Crimea coverage in media of Europe and the Middle East” which proves that Crimea was mentioned mostly in combination with the military attacks, however, the persecution and the deportation of the Crimean Tatars were hardly covered by the foreign media.
“Mostly Crimea was mentioned with regard to the military actions. Regrettably, the topics of the human rights violations, tragedies, the Ukrainian people has been facing especially in the occupied territories, are hardly or not covered at all by the foreign media,” – Olha SKRYPNYK stresses.
Mrs. SKRYPNYK claims that the foreign events within the Crimea Platform have positive effect on the Crimea coverage in media.
Olha SKRYPNYK adds that Ukraine has to fight against massive misinformation (spread not only by Russia, but by its agents in different countries), inter alia through intensification of foreign diplomatic events on Crimea. The coordination and intensification of the work of the social networks as to the events abroad and cooperation with the foreign journalists are of great importance.
Yevhen PEREBYINIS, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine states: “The task of the Ukrainian diplomacy is to keep Crimea at the focus of the international attention. And the diplomacy has succeeded here as there is no single civilized country in the world which recognized the annexation of Crimea ”.
Charlotte SUREN, Chargé d’Affaires of the United Kingdom in Ukraine, reiterates the consistency of the stance of the United Kingdom – for 11 years Britain has been campaigning for deliberation of the political prisoners of Russia. Charlotte SUREN reminds signing the 100 Year Partnership by the UK and Ukraine to cooperate in many fields, including security and defense.
Tamila TASHEVA, the parliamentarian of Ukraine, informs on the statement by the Parliament of Ukraine adopted on that very day and addressed to the Parliaments of other countries and the international organizations urging to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Tamila TASHEVA thanks those Parliaments which domestically declared the Deportation of the Crimean Tatars to be the genocide act.
