Defendants in the Case of the ‘First Bakhchisarai Group’ Released after Nine Years in Prison

The members of the ‘First Bakhchisarai Group’ in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case Remzi Memetov, Rustem Abiltarov and Zevri Abseyitov were released after nine years of imprisonment.

Lawyers and relatives met the Crimean Muslims at the exit from the colonies. According to the Crimean Solidarity, Enver Mamutov, who is serving a sentence of 16 years and 9 months in the Stavropol CF-11, is still imprisoned.

As previously reported, on 12 May 2016, four Crimean Tatars were arrested in Bakhchisarai as a result of searches. A cook Remzi Memetov, an entrepreneur Enver Mamutov, a dentist Zevri Abseyitov and a carpenter Rustem Abiltarov were charged under Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – ‘participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation’.

On 24 December 2018, Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don in the Russian Federation sentenced Remzi Memetov, Rustem Abiltarov and Zevri Abseyitov to 9 years in prison. Enver Mamutov was sentenced to 17 years in prison. On 11 July 2019, the Supreme Court of Russia commuted the sentence, reducing the term of all four by three months.
