Khalil Kurtamet, aged 58, was sentenced to 8 years in the maximum-security regime penal colony for alleged service in Noman Chelebidzhikhan Crimean Tatar Battalion.
This unlawful decision was made by “Henichesk District Court” of Kherson Region, Henichesk.ua reports.
To remind: Mr. Khalil Kurtamet, Appaz Kurtamet’s father, a Novooleksiivka resident, was detained in November 2023. According to the FSB, “the detained actively contributed to the battalion activities since 2015 as well as donated money to equip the battalion base in the village of Chonhar, Kherson Region”.
As reported earlier: Appaz Kurtamet, a 20-year-old Crimean Tatar, a teacher of the Crimean Tatar language from the village of Novooleksiivka, Kherson Region, left on July 23, 2022, from the village of Novooleksiivka to Crimea to visit his relatives. His contact with the relatives was interrupted at the Chonhar checkpoint. For almost three months, Appaz Kurtamet’s whereabouts and legal status were unknown. There was also no information about the reason for the detention and the charges.
On April 20, 2023, “Kievskiy District Court of Simferopol” (“judge” Oksana Karchevskaya) sentenced Appaz Kurtamet abducted in July 2022 at the administrative border with Kherson Region, to 7 years in the maximum-security regime penal colony, with the first year to be served in prison.
On May 30, 2024, the 4th Cassation Court of general jurisdiction in Krasnodar (Russian Federation) upheld the conviction.
