The Third General Jurisdiction Court of Appeal of Russia considered the appeal against the sentence of so called “Supreme Court” in the case of Nariman Dzhelial and brothers Aziz and Asan Aktemov.
The Russian court upheld the terms of deprivation but aggravated the punishment ordering the convicts to serve the first three years in prison, and the remaining ones in the maximum security regime penal colony.
To remind: on September 21, the “Supreme Court of Crimea” convicted Nariman Dzhelial, a Deputy Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, a politician and an activist, a journalist in the past, and brothers Aziz and Asan Akhtemov, activists.
Mr.Dzhelial was sentenced to 17 years’ deprivation in the maximum security regime penal colony, a fine of RUR700,000, and a restriction of freedom for 1.5 year.
Mr.Asan Akhtemov was sentenced to 15 years’ deprivation in the maximum security regime penal colony, a fine of RUR500,000, and a restriction of freedom for 1 year.
Mr.Aziz Akhtemov was sentenced to 13 years’ deprivation in the maximum security regime penal colony, a fine of RUR500,000, and a restriction of freedom for 1 year.
The preliminary investigation of the case of blowing up a gas pipeline in the village of Pereval’ne was reported to have been completed on December 15.
The defendants in the case are charged under the Russian Federation Criminal Code Articles 281 -2 a) b) (commitment of sabotage by an organized group that caused significant property damage), 222.1-4 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group), 226.1-3 (illegal transportation of an explosive device across the customs border of the Customs Union within the borders of the EurAsEC, committed by an organized group).
The defendants have pleaded not guilty to any of the charges.
