12 Years’ Sentence for Resident of Simferopol Accused of “Espionage”

Stanislav Stetsenko (Khudoley), a 35-year-old Crimean, was sentenced to 12 years on charges of “espionage” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The occupation “Supreme Court of Crimea” informed that the sentence had been pronounced on December 22, 2022.

On March 21, 2023, the Court of Appeal in Sochi rejected the appeal and confirmed the sentence for Mr.Stetsenko.

To remind: on June 24, 2021, the FSB of the Russian Federation announced the detention of a resident of Simferopol, who was said “to have acted in the interests of the intelligence agencies of Ukraine.” A criminal case under the RF Criminal Code Article 275 (High treason) was initiated against the Crimean, and he was taken in custody as pre-trial restriction.

According to Mr.Oleksandr Siedov, a Crimean Human Rights Group analytic expert, the accusation of “high treason” is completely groundless and this is another propaganda case against a resident of Crimea.

As Mr.Siedov says, initiating such cases is aimed at creating an image of the enemy among the occupied territory population, intimidating the pro-Ukrainian part of the residents of Crimea with a possible deprival of freedom at any time on fake charges as well as composing the hostage exchange fund.

At least 17 citizens of Ukraine, detained before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, are kept in custody within the “cases of Ukrainian commandos and spies”/

are in prison on the “cases of Ukrainian saboteurs and spies”.
