‘Bilogorsk District Court’ of Simferopol City found Abdureshyt Dzhepparov guilty of disobedience to the policemen’s requirements and sentenced to a 12 days’ administrative arrest.
According to the “court” judgement dated April 25, which wording is in the CHRG possession, Mr.Dzhepparov was said to have refused giving his laptop to Ruslan Shambazov, the so-called “head of the Extremism Counteracting Center department”. So he was reported on under Code of Administrative Offenses Article 19.3-1 (disobedience to police staff).
“Judge” Tamara Lobunska imposed an administrative arrest for 12 days.
To remind: on April 25, Russian security forces re-searched the house of Abdureshyt Dzhepparov, a well-known Crimean human rights defender and a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement. The mobiles of Mr.Dzhepprov, his wife, and his daughter were immediately taken away so they were not able to call a lawyer. Mr.Dzhepparov was detained after the search. His whereabouts and the reason for his detention are unknown at the moment.
Abdureshyt Dzhepparov has devoted almost his entire life to defending the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, in particular, he fought for the return of the indigenous people to the Motherland after Stalin’s deportation of 1944. With the start of Russian occupation of Crimea, Mr.Dzhepparov has been actively helping victims of political repression. At the end of 2014, he became coordinator of the Crimean Contact Group for Human Rights, that tried to support searching the victims of enforced disappearances in the occupied peninsula. The human rights activity of Mr.Dzhepparov has been highly appreciated at the international level, for instance, in 2020, the human rights defender was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Ukrainian human rights community determines the detention of Abdureshyt Dzhepparov as element of consistent and large scale persecution of Crimean human rights defenders and activists that has started once the Crimean Peninsula was occupied by Russia.
