Crimea has seen a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 infections for the fifth week

According to the occupation authorities of the peninsula, the Crimean Human Rights Group experts have drawn up a weekly schedule for the incidence of a new coronavirus infection.

From August 17 to 23 in Crimea and Sevastopol, the occupation authorities confirmed 321 cases of COVID-19. Last week — from August 10 through 16 308 cases were officially confirmed, from August 5 through 9 — 244, from July 27 through August 2 — 207, from July 20 through 26 — 191 cases.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in Crimea and Sevastopol 2 602 cases of COVID-19 have been registered, 62 – fatal.

The continuing sharp increase in the incidence is most likely associated with the holding of mass events in Crimea, as well as with the regular arrival of tourists from many regions of the Russian Federation, including Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, which now have the largest number of infected people throughout Russia.

According to the CHRG experts, the official public statistics on the incidence of coronavirus on the peninsula is underestimated, since it does not reflect data on infections in the ranks of the Russian army and law enforcement agencies, as well as patients with community-acquired pneumonia.
