War Propaganda and Occupier’s Army Service Advertising in Sevastopol Again

On 23 February 2020 an ambitious militarist mass event was held in Sevastopol.

There was an exhibition of military machines and arms at Nakhimova Square.

The Russian military handed children and teenagers assault rifles and rifles and showed how to target and shoot. Military tents and tables were set up nearby, where young people who came to the square were being recruited into the army of the occupying power in violation of the international humanitarian law. There were also posters with Russian symbols dedicated to the so-called “Crimean Spring” on the square, creating a positive image of the occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The Crimean Human Rights Group reminds that conscription of the residents of the occupied territories to the army of occupying power as well as a continuous propaganda of the RF Armed Forces service on the territory of Crimea violate Article 51 of Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Fourth Geneva Convention). Moreover, the army conscription propaganda among the under aged violates also Article 38-1 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
